“Like fire... warm, mesmerizing, consuming, and crackling with intensity”
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alexis is a versatile, multi-talented circus performer. She fell in love with circus at age 10, and has been flying, flipping, dancing, and dangling ever since. After several years of competitive gymnastics, she joined Splash Circus in Oakland, California where she excelled at acrobatics, aerial arts, juggling, and clowning, and discovered the joy of delighting audiences. In 2002, she joined the San Francisco Youth Circus, learning traditional Chinese acrobatics with Master Lu Yi and touring the Bay Area with contemporary circus shows directed by Gypsy Snider (7 Fingers) and Aloysia Gavre (Cirque du Soleil). Her alter ego went on to earn a BA in Psychology and French at Vassar College-- all the while coaching, directing, and performing with the college's circus troupe, The Barefoot Monkeys. After completing a fellowship in neurodevelopment at the National Institute of Mental Health, she returned to circus full-time at the National Institute of Circus Arts in Melbourne, Australia.
She specializes in aerial rope, cyr wheel, and acrobatics, while also enjoying juggling, physical theatre, and climbing and dangling from just about anything. Her passion is the exploration of the body’s capabilities and languages, using circus as a way to connect and communicate with others.
